Spring heralds a lot of energy and the return of longer sunnier days beckons one to make new plans or try something new; resume aborted plans, projects and dreams and even acknowledge and face one’s fears or negative beliefs.  The energy of spring is all about positivity and potential. With this in mind we share with you Kassandra Reinhardt’s energy boosting flow to help you tap into the power of this season. The practice focuses primarily on spinal rotation and lateral flexion; a wonderful way to activate your digestive system and get a boost of energy.

Dear Yoga Magazine Readers,

The first bloom of Spring always makes my heart sing!

Perhaps this is also a good time to detox. But are you wondering what might be the most effective way to do so. No problem! Olesya Wilson shares with us methods to free the traffic jam in our lymph system and help it get toxins out of our body quickly. Clarity on how to detox can bring fruitful, long-term benefits to your body, mind, and flow state. The good thing that COVID has brought about is working from home. But according to Anji Gopal, Osteopath, Yoga Teacher and Teacher Trainer this can be a real pain in the neck and back. She brings us five top tips to use yoga therapeutically to help support the spine and neck. Caroline Klebl illustrates the sequence of yoga postures to remove tension in the body, cultivate deep relaxation and prepare the body for seated meditation practice. Furthermore, Dr Jen Patterson illustrates how yoga incorporates the self-care practices of breathwork, movement, nutrition, and spirit to provide a well-rounded approach to wellness. And Rebecca Wildbear warns us that losing touch with our bodies disconnects us from ourselves and it is Yoga asanas, the body postures of yoga, that have the power to bring us back into the body and show us that being there is essential.

Having said that there are those whose realities are different - e.g., those living with a lifelong medical condition. ‘The Road Less Travelled,’ outlines some of the ways in which one can better navigate life while living with such conditions. Rola Tassabehji shares with us the stories of another category of people living under abnormal conditions - the refugees. However, the stories she shares shows us how yoga can provide them a lifeline but it is not yet used to its full potential.

Asana is usually translated as “posture.” However, Yogacharini Maitreyi, reminds us that it comes from the root word “state of being.” So in each moment we are called to be aware of our state of being and our stance/posture towards the world as we are so much more than just the physical. In “Be Like Water” we can see this unity reflected in Bruce Lee’s life. During his short life, he achieved mastery of mind, body and movement and has left behind a remarkable legacy.  Roy Sunak unfolds how Yoga and Meditation strengthened and enriched the remarkable journey of his life. In a very poetic and moving feature, he shares with us how his album “Tear in the River” came to be born. He calls on all to be more compassionate towards each other because, by doing so, we can reduce much of our suffering.

Do not forget to turn to the Readers’ Platform, where Jonathan and Albert share interesting and inspiring pieces on how Yoga can help you tap into your inner strength and create meaningful change in your life.

May the seeds of Spring bring good harvest for all!
