Dear YOGA Magazine Readers,
Greetings and Blessings!
As the year edges towards its quiet close, November greets us with a subtle shift — a slowing down of pace, an invitation to pause and listen. Nature, in her gentle wisdom, begins to turn inward. The trees shed what no longer serves them; the earth exhales. In this spirit, Yoga Magazine dedicates this issue to balance, gratitude, and renewal.
This month’s collection of features reminds us that harmony is not found in perfection, but in presence. From Ayurveda’s elemental wisdom to Taoist medicine’s call to restore the dance of Yin and Yang, each article invites us to align body, mind, and spirit with the rhythms of nature. Lucy Fleetwood’s exploration of Ayurveda and Yoga beautifully captures this essence — teaching us how self-care, guided by awareness of our dosha, can bring vitality and peace. Likewise, Ashwini Guru Ji’s discourse on Agnisar Kriya rekindles the inner fire, reminding us that purification begins from within.
Energy is the thread that runs through these teachings. Whether in Yogiraj Muni’s mystical account of Kundalini awakening, in the sonic vibrations explored by Belinda Chavasse in The Healing Power of Sound, or in Ingrid Yang’s meditation on the energetic core through Plank Pose, we are reminded that the body is more than f lesh and bone — it is a vessel of light, movement, and consciousness.
In my own contribution, Finding the Silent Pulse, I share reflections from a week immersed in meditation and Vedic study amidst the hills of Monchique, Portugal. That retreat reminded me of yoga’s true essence — the profound stillness beneath all movement. There, amid the silence, it became clear that the heart of yoga lies not in striving but in surrender, not in seeking more but in realising we already are enough.
This issue also explores the quieter dimensions of healing — the somatic intelligence that allows us to move from within, the courage to meet anxiety with awareness, and the grace of transforming shame into self-compassion. Maria Cooper-Gomes, Elizabeth April, and Debby Wilkinson each guide us towards emotional freedom, showing that healing is not a destination but a continuous unfolding of presence.
And at the very heart of this issue is gratitude — what Dr Kausthub Desikachar calls “the original superfood for the spirit”. It is a practice available to us all, one that softens the mind, steadies the heart, and reconnects us with joy.
May these pages inspire you to slow down, to listen, and to rediscover balance — not as a fleeting moment, but as a way of being.
Wishing you balance, gratitude and renewal
